OLX Group is a global marketplace serving tens of millions of users monthly, facilitating everything from automotive sales to housing and recruitment. With such a massive scale, providing a pleasant and intuitive ad-creation journey is essential—and that’s where I come in. As a Product Designer within the Car Parts team, I tackled the challenge of improving listing quality by encouraging sellers to include vital compatibility information in their ads. Such information is critical to increase buyers confidence when searching for a part and ensure successful transactions.

 

Problem

🚩  Incomplete compatibility information the parts ads

Incomplete vehicle compatibility data (part type, code, make, model, and generation) represented a significant friction point in car parts listings:

1️⃣  Sellers frequently bypassed the compatibility section fields during the listing process. By skipping this section, sellers were creating incomplete listings leadind to reduced search ability, lower buyer confidence, and ultimately hurting the platform's conversion metrics.

 

Hypotheses

1️⃣  Information Gap

We believed sellers skip this section because they don't have the technical data (like part codes or specific engine generations) readily available vehicle or don't know where to find it.

2️⃣  Low Perceived Value

We believed sellers don't realize that adding compatibility info actually helps them sell faster; therefore, they treat it as an unnecessary 'extra' task rather than a tool for success.

3️⃣ Search Confidence

We hypothesized that sellers believe their title and description are 'good enough' for search, not realizing that the platform's filters rely specifically on structured compatibility data.

Results & Impact

🚘 +23,47% of ads with compatibility information (target was +2%)

🚘 +32% number of filled compatibility fields per posting

🚘 +43.35% conversion rate of users with posting intent in Parts category who successfully posted an ad with part code

Solution 

🚀  Multi-layered approach focused on prominence, education, and behavioral nudges

  • Strategic re-prioritization (IA): I moved the "Compatibility Section" above "Additional Information" to ensure it appeared earlier in the user’s cognitive flow. I also grouped the Part Type & Part Code fields within this section to create a more logical and cohesive data-entry experience.
  • Contextual Education: To bridge the information Gap, I integrated a descriptive tooltip specifically designed to guide sellers on where to find part codes, reducing the effort required to provide accurate data.
  • Visual Nudges: To motivate sellers, I added a strong value proposition ("Add information about this part’s compatibility to receive more replies!") that clearly connects the effort of providing data to a tangible reward: increased engagement. By adding this, I shifted the perception of the task from a "requirement" to a "selling advantage."
  • Intentional Friction: To prevent accidental skips, I added a confirmation modal that triggers if a user attempts to publish without filling in compatibility details. This ensures the user makes a conscious decision rather than skipping out of habit.
