OLX Group is a global marketplace serving tens of millions of users monthly, facilitating everything from automotive sales to housing and recruitment. With such a massive scale, providing a pleasant and intuitive ad-creation journey is essential—and that’s where I come in. As a Product Designer within the Car Parts team, I tackled the challenge of improving listing quality by encouraging sellers to include vital compatibility information in their ads. Such information is critical to increase buyers confidence when searching for a part and ensure successful transactions.
Problem
🚩 Incomplete compatibility information the parts ads
Incomplete vehicle compatibility data (part type, code, make, model, and generation) represented a significant friction point in car parts listings:
1️⃣ Sellers frequently bypassed the compatibility section fields during the listing process. By skipping this section, sellers were creating incomplete listings leadind to reduced search ability, lower buyer confidence, and ultimately hurting the platform's conversion metrics.
Hypotheses
1️⃣ Information Gap
We believed sellers skip this section because they don't have the technical data (like part codes or specific engine generations) readily available vehicle or don't know where to find it.
2️⃣ Low Perceived Value
We believed sellers don't realize that adding compatibility info actually helps them sell faster; therefore, they treat it as an unnecessary 'extra' task rather than a tool for success.
3️⃣ Search Confidence
We hypothesized that sellers believe their title and description are 'good enough' for search, not realizing that the platform's filters rely specifically on structured compatibility data.
Results & Impact
🚘 +23,47% of ads with compatibility information (target was +2%)
🚘 +32% number of filled compatibility fields per posting
🚘 +43.35% conversion rate of users with posting intent in Parts category who successfully posted an ad with part code
